Crafted for the Curious Coffee Drinker
Exceptional coffee starts at the source. We bring distinctive coffees from origin to new markets.
Our Story
We Didn’t Start With Coffee. We Started With People.
Hartma’s story began long before coffee became part of our business.
Our journey to Kenya originally had little to do with coffee. Through years of cross-border infrastructure and engineering projects, we spent time working with local partners, getting to know the people, and becoming familiar with the communities around us.
And when you spend enough time in Kenya, it’s hard not to notice the coffee.
Coffee is part of the land, the local economy, and the lives of so many people we came to know. What started as a simple curiosity gradually turned into something more. We visited coffee-growing regions, learned about the work behind each harvest, and began to appreciate just how much Kenya had to offer.
But there was another reason we wanted to take this further.
Through our time in Kenya, we also saw how much opportunity could come from building lasting businesses with local communities. Rather than making a one-time contribution, we wanted to create something that could grow over time — something that could connect local producers with new markets and bring value to both sides.
Coffee became a natural place to start.
With trusted relationships already in place and partners who understood the region firsthand, we began bringing Kenyan coffee to the United States. What started as an unexpected discovery gradually grew into Hartma Coffee.
Today, we work to connect Kenyan coffee producers with American roasters, bringing carefully sourced green coffee across borders while continuing to strengthen the relationships that started it all.
We never went to Kenya looking for coffee. But somewhere along the way, coffee became part of our story.
